MONUMENTAL STAIR

Within the lobby of the University of Pennsylvania Perelman Center for Political Sciences and Economics resides one of the most unique stairs ever made. The cantilevered half-pace stair is fabricated with 3/4" to 1" thick wall plates surrounding tube steel stringers and stone treads finished with seamless stainless steel handrails.

The stair itself is anchored only at the floors allowing the mid landing to be entirely supported by the structure of the stair. The stair spans three floors, has two mid landings and had to be installed in sections. The welding for this stair was a logistical challenge that required special planning and sequencing in order to achieve.
