Noguchi's Kite and Key
 |
| Isamu
Noguchi’s vision for this monument began in 1933 and became a reality 51
years later when Crescent Iron Works provided the expertise and the
facility necessary to build it. The 34 ton sculpture consists of a
four-legged steel base and key supporting a large stainless steel
lightning bolt and kite. At 102 feet tall, it stands as gateway to the
city in its location at the entrance to the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, and
it is visible from Franklin Square, Independence Mall, and many other
places near the bridge. The sculpture was a gift from the Fairmont Park
Art Association to the City of Philadelphia. More
